We recently completed the OS kitchen project in a newly renovated Altbau in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. The bright and airy open plan area called for a clean, contemporary cooking space; topped with unique accents to complement the home and its household.
The starting point for the design of the OS kitchen was the large island. Therefore we chose a natural stone called Rio Argento for its dramatic textural quality, and this became the hero piece of the kitchen. The Turkish marble and limestone mix was also used for the backsplash and worktop surrounding the tap and sink area. This detail gives the space visual continuity and cohesion. Installed tap – Quooker Cube.
Full height cabinetry
We have implemented a simple floor to ceiling cabinet setup with mushroom linoleum valchromat so as not to dominate the room. As for the interior we included solid ash wood. The gallery-style track lighting from Wever & Ducré further brightens the open plan OS kitchen and living space. We installed Neff appliances and a stylish Bora gas cooker on the island, making sure that cooking becomes an outward, sociable experience.
Other special details of this cool yet cordial OS kitchen include the 1930s style Berker plug sockets; a nod to the original architecture of the home – and the LITE shelves placed above the backsplash. The white powder coated steel shelves are a recent addition to the MYKILOS collection, providing easy storage while emitting a warm LED light underneath. Perfect for chopping vegetables or finishing the late-night washing up.
