In a ’90s apartment block we had the pleasure of designing a new kitchen for a Berlin technophile. Presented in a narrow, but light-filled space with one wall of large, petrol-lacquered windows looking out onto a sunny terrace, we chose a paired back colour scheme to highlight the warmth of sunlight outside while keeping it cool and contemporary indoors.

All the drawer and cabinet fronts were built the same height to achieve consistency in form. Made from solid Fenix compact board in charcoal black, it offers a beautifully soft, matt finish with an anti-fingerprint effect. The interior of the cabinets are solid oak to match the surrounding oak flooring. It is paired with a stainless steel worktop, black sink and black Quooker Cube tap for filtered, sparkling and boiling water.

While the sleek, minimalist exterior ensures all the natural light pouring in remains the focal point, it is the additional features that give the kitchen its unique quality, reflecting the client’s fondness for a gadget. There is a built-in under counter slicer, integrated organic bin and hidden electrical outlets. The integrated appliances, including cooker, oven and fridge are all top-range Gaggenau and the Wever Ducre LED spots were chosen for their warm light and dimmable option, built in flush to the drop ceiling.
