LINOLEUM

Linoleum has in recent years become quite the choice ‘du jour’ when it comes to kitchens and interiors. Although the material has been around for more than a century traditionally used for flooring, we are seeing more and more used in kitchen design and furniture

LINOLEUM

Linoleum is a natural surfacing material that delivers a matt, pleasant and warm finishing touch. Big plus points include its biodegradability and the antimicrobial qualities of the material, making it highly resistant and easy to clean.

The name is made up of the Latin “Linum Usitatissimum” flax and “Oleum” for oil. Linoleum is very resistant to oils, fats and tar. It is is antistatic and even slightly fungicidal and bacteriostatic to various microorganisms. It is heavy to normally flammable and typically meets Class C-fl in the European fire classification system, putting it among a class of other resilient coverings. The material is not very puncture resistant and is not suitable for use in damp rooms. In addition, linoleum is very sensitive to alkalis and is chemically degraded by them.

At MYKILOS we implement linoleum mainly for fronts and cabinets within our kitchen and interior projects. The common core material of those plates used in our projects is black or grey MDF, however, we also offer other variations like Multiplex or laminboard which is relatively light and offered in different wood or colour edge-finishes. When it comes to linoleum doors and drawers, we offer various ‘clear-surface’ design solutions in which the edge profile is custom-made to function as a handle.

We work with top quality material originally provided by the Swiss producer Forbo, which started applying special pinboard-linoleum to the wall and furniture linoleum to desktops, tables, kitchen doors etc. in recent years.
